Monthly Call To Action – April

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was first passed in 1994 and established/funded the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women and provided funding for the investigation and prosecution of domestic and other interpersonal violence, stalking and sexual assault. It’s funding expired in 2019. Affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person by calling your US Senators and asking them to support reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, H.R. 1620. (The House passed H.R. 1620 and it has now moved to the Senate for consideration). Sample call script: “Hi. My name is [NAME] and I am a constituent from [CITY, ZIP CODE]. I am calling to ask Senator [NAME] to support H.R. 1620, the Violence Against Women Act, and reauthorize funding for this crucial program, as well as proposed expansions such as protections for transgender individuals and broadening protections for Native American women. Thank you.” Senator Alex Padilla (202)224-3553/(619)239-3884; Senator Dianne Feinstein (202)224-3841/(619)231-9712.
