At the end of next month, UUFSD will partner with St. James Catholic Church in Solana Beach to provide welcoming food and shelter to people experiencing homelessness through the Interfaith Rotational Overnight Shelter Network. You’ll have the opportunity to prepare and bring delicious dinners, to spend a night, or hang out on a weekend afternoon.

St. James provides the space and we volunteer from 1/26 to 2/2/25 to make people feel at home.

This program focuses on those who are situationally homeless. Everyone has case managers to help them gain stability through permanent housing and jobs. Last year, the whole program serving all parts of San Diego County, served 121 guests, provided 3,348 bed-nights, and 10,800 meals. Forty-six guests left the shelter for more permanent housing and 39 adults obtained and retained employment while in the shelter.

UUFSD has participated in this service for decades. Please put the dates on your calendar and watch for sign-ups to volunteer after the first of the year. It’s a wonderful example of how a county-wide village can come together to help the more vulnerable members of our community regain their independence and security.
