On Saturday February 23rd from 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM we will conduct a UUFSD Bird-A-Thon. We will meet at UUFSD, bird that area then proceed down the hill to San Dieguito Lagoon and bird 2-3 spots there. Our goal is to see or hear as many bird species as we can during our outing. Requirement for participating is a donation to UUFSD on a per-species or fixed any-amount basis. I expect that we will observe 40-50 species.
I have been fortunate in recruiting two excellent local birders to help guide us and be our guests at lunch. Both are very familiar with birding around the Lagoon.
We will have a picnic potluck lunch at the Fellowship which I will lightly manage for balance.
Participating in a Bird-A-Thon is a fun team effort. An important goal is to raise funds for a Bird & Butterfly Garden at the Fellowship. I am pledging $1/bird and encourage others to pledge whatever they wish on a per-bird or fixed amount basis. I will also seek sponsorship from non-participants and encourage you to do likewise.
Please put this date on your calendar. Later I will ask you to let me know if you plan to participate, what your pledge is, if you wish, and what you plan to bring to lunch. I will also send you the letter I will use to ask for sponsorship from others as an example of what you might do.
Binoculars are essential. If you do not have a pair of decent ones, please let me know and I will provide them.
I encourage you to invite others, whether members or not, who might enjoy this experience to come along. We should have a lot of fun.
