Here are the reasons from the Stewardship Steering Committee meeting minutes in March:

There was a general feeling that the social distancing would last at least one more month, and possibly two months. There was concern that many people who are still relying on a paycheck would be hurting and would be conserving cash.

There was general agreement that we should cancel the auction for this FY, because it would be difficult to get donations from shuttered businesses, many of last year’s auction items have been postponed already, and no one is in a celebratory mood that a successful auction requires.

Rather than put the effort into a failed online auction that would likely generate few auction items and little cash, it seemed prudent to postpone the auction altogether until the fall when (hopefully) people will again be ready to get together and party.
