Day of Mindfulness Silent Walking Meditation Saturday, May 10; 8:30am-3pm; Founders Hall
This monthly workshop is run by Bob Isaacson in the tradition of Insight Meditation-Vipassana. Vispassana is the primary meditation technique that was taught by the Buddha and involves paying mindful attention to present moment experiences in a way that leads to clarity, relaxation, and coming into harmony with our experiences. We will practice sitting and walking meditation throughout the Day. There will be some guided sitting meditation and instructions on walking meditation. A talk on the Buddha’s teachings will be presented in a non-sectarian way. Questions and comments are welcome during this interactive talk. A limited number of interviews/check-ins will be available. Please bring your own lunch. Donations for the workshop and UUFSD are appreciated at the event. For more information, or to register, please email [email protected].
2nd Monday Book Club May 12th May 12; 6:30-8:15pm; Founders Hall West
On Monday May 12th we will be discussing the modern novel Jackie & Me by Louis Bayard, written in 2022. The author states the book is “without apology, a fictional work and an exercise in alternative history.” His subject was a real person: Kirk LeMoyne Billings, who met John F. Kennedy as a teenager and became a longtime fixer and confidant for his friend. Jack depends on his gay friend, nicknamed Lem, to entertain Jackie while he lays the groundwork for a political career, and later to convince Jackie to marry JFK.
We meet in Founders Hall on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30pm. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
