The Oceans and Climate Change Talk — Feb. 15

The Oceans and Climate Change

Join renowned scientist and fellow UUFSD member Dr. Lynne Talley this Sunday, February 15 at 11:30 am in Founders Hall for The Oceans and Climate Change.

The global ocean is changing due to human induced changes to the Earth’s energy balance.. How do we observe this? What are the impacts? We’ll look at the signals of heating and added carbon dioxide which leads to sea level rise, ocean acidification, changes in its oxygen content and other changes in the ocean’s ecosystem.

The main observing systems we use are robotic floats that are distributed everywhere in the global ocean and which profile from the sea surface to 2000 meters every 10 days; and global shipboard measurements of the highest accuracy, used for calibration and validation of changes observed by the robotic floats.

Dr. Talley will answer your questions about what the future holds and your role in saving our oceans. This talk includes a light lunch. Cost $20. Sign up on Breeze.
