Monthly Call To Action – May
The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, (H.R. 1280) proposes the most comprehensive reforms to policing in over 50 years. Among its provisions, it would: (1) Mandate training on racial bias and the duty to intervene; (2) Establish a National Police Misconduct Registry to track police misconduct and thwart officers from switching jurisdictions to avoid accountability; and (3) Reform qualified immunity for police officers to allow individuals to recover damages when their constitutional rights are violated.
Affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person by calling your US Senators and asking them to support this legislation. (The House passed H.R. 1280 and it has now moved to the Senate for consideration). Sample call script:
“Hi. My name is [NAME] and I am a constituent from [CITY, ZIP CODE]. I am calling to ask Senator [NAME] to support H.R.1280, The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, (H.R. 1280). Thank you.”
