June is GVP month. Please take a moment to read the comments from last weeks service.

Each week we reaffirm our commitment to this community and to the UU principles that guide us in living a moral and ethical life. In that spirit, before we get into the service we planned, I feel the need to take a moment to acknowledge the most recent gun violence. It is still shocking and tragic every time we hear about another shooting. If you, like me, are tired of talking about what should be done and what shouldn’t have been allowed, let’s all commit to take action. What can we do? We can increase the pressure on public officials who have the power to make change.

Specifically, John Post, our UUFSD gun violence prevention lead person, asks each person here to find 2 friends and together send letters, emails, or phone calls to the elected officials in your city, state, and at the federal level. Asking just for two and asking each of them to ask two, could create thousands of people in just one month.

What should you say? Start with the ban on assault weapons. Close the weapons of war loophole! For your congressperson and senators, demand the enforcement of coordinated records reporting of all purchases to all local, state, and federal agencies. If you need more details, contact John Post or Steve Bartram.
