UUFSD Buildings and Grounds Committee is organized as a central steering committee and several working groups.
The Steering Committee includes the B&G committee chair and leaders of the working groups. Its function is primarily managerial:
- Leadership
- Communication
- Resources
- Documentation
- Special Projects
Working groups are intent on getting things done. Four permanent groups focus on these areas of skilled interest:
- Landscape - Planting, pruning, irrigation and erosion control
- Hardscape - Retaining walls, paths, patios and parking
- Structures - Buildings, bridges
- Furnishings - Benches, tables, umbrellas, cabinets,furniture
In addition, ad hoc groups may emerge, as needed, under the auspices of the Steering Committee to address special topics.
Many UUBG documents are Project documents, where the UUBG-NNN ID number is also the project number. Titles of project documents begin "Project: ...". Projects are new, one-time or infrequent activities that take more than 2 people, 2 weeks or $200. If a project recurs, design a maintenance process to handle it. Each project is owned by the steering committee or one of the working groups.
We define five overlapping "phases" in a project life cycle:
- Assess - what is needed
- Plan - a workable solution
- Design - details of the plan
- Execute - the plan
- Followup - any loose ends
We define the "status" of projects based on those phases:
- Prospective Projects (Assess & Plan)
- Active Projects (Design & Execute)
- Completed Projects (Followup)
- Abandoned Projects (at whatever phase they were terminated)
Projects are listed under the group which owns them. Prospective and Active Projects appear here in the Current Documents section. Eventually, projects are either Completed or Abandoned and are then moved to the Archived Documents section at the end of this index.
