Men’s Social Fellowship
The Men’s Social Fellowship (MSF) consists of a group of men who are interested in exploring the social side of their personality in the company of other men. The main focus of the group will be to set up opportunities for small, ad hoc groups of men to participate in pursuits in which they have common interests-going to a baseball game, browse a used book store, enjoy a concert at the Belly Up, take the kids to the beach, or just go for coffee and chat. We believe that only in small, intimate settings can people really socialize and get to know each other.

There are two online yahoo subscription groups which UUFSD members and friends can join. The first is uufsd_ann. This group is for activities and events directly related to our Fellowship and of interest to large groups within it. Posting is limited to moderators and UUFSD Board members. The other group is uufsdonline. This is an open forum where members and friends can discuss interesting news items, political thoughts, etc.

Young Adults
Young adults face educational and career choices, relationship and family issues, and, for many, the struggles of leading lives independently. The goal of this group is to provide a venue for young adults to connect with other young adults and facilitate activities/discussions that are of common importance. To facilitate this goal, the group is subdivided by age: one group for 18-25 year olds, and the other for 25-35 year olds.

Annual Events
Annual All Fellowship Weekend at de Benneville Pines
This weekend (usually the first weekend in April) is open to everyone at the Fellowship, singles, couples, families, members, friends, visitors, and anyone else who is interested in having fun and getting better acquainted with each other. There are workshops, craft projects, games, hiking, dancing, singing, and 5 great meals. Camp de Benneville Pines is located in the San Bernardino Mountains, about 35 miles this side of Big Bear. The rustic, yet heated, cabins have modern bath facilities and bunk beds. More information about the camp can be found at uucamp.org.

Memorial Day and the Fourth of July weekends on Mount Laguna

Each year we reserve campsites at Mt. Laguna for the Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends. Enthusiastic campers sign up their families to participate. Some folks arrive on the Friday night and others on Saturday. We leave on Monday afternoon. There is a wonderful community stew on Saturday evening. Actually several stews: beef, chicken and vegetarian. Everyone brings something for the stew pots and a side dish to share. Other meals are on a family basis, but don’t be surprised if a couple of kids eat with you instead of their own families. There are opportunities for hiking, biking, and games galore. Campfires and singing are part of the fun.

Yearly Beach Party

Each year at the UUFSD annual fundraising auction in May, one of the items offered is a Beach Party. Everyone who “bids” on this, gets to participate while helping to support the fellowship. This event is held either the weekend before or after Labor Day at the South Carlsbad State Beach. A couple of host families provide a sumptuous BBQ meal, and everyone who attends enjoys an afternoon of swimming and eating: hamburgers, hotdogs, vegie-burgers and various salads and desserts. The party starts at 4:00 PM and runs until sundown. It is a definitely a favorite way to start our Fellowship year.

Dia de los Muertos
We share the traditions of this ancient Mexican holiday which celebrates life by embracing the truth of death and inviting spirits back to earth for a party. Members and visitors are invited to participate in this interactive celebratory service by bringing momentos, thoughts, pictures, and/or favorite items of a dead friend or loved one whose life you wish to celebrate. We have a communal altar/ofrenda, and a chance to light a candle and share a brief remembrance.
