RE Volunteering

Volunteers

There are many ways to volunteer in the Religious Education (RE) program. Although we expect families to participate, you don’t need to be a parent to experience the joy of helping our children and youth!

Most volunteers are in the classroom, teaching or assisting on Sunday morning. Teachers lead the classes, using lesson plans from Unitarian Universalist curricula. Our goal is to have each teacher lead a class once every 4 to 6 weeks. Assistants provide a second set of hands to help with activities, and to bring a simple, healthy snack for the class (reimbursed by UUFSD). In YRUU, advisors help youth leaders facilitate programs they designed.  Please note that there’s no need for prior teaching experience or to be a UU “expert” to teach or assist in the classroom – it’s very easy and there’s lots of support available from Alison and others!

Another way to volunteer is to be an RE greeter, which involves arriving 15 minutes early to welcome new families and visitors with children to our services and collecting their basic information.

To make volunteering even easier, we’re now using an online sign-up tool,Sign Up Genius, to schedule teachers, classroom assistants and RE greeters.  Please click here to visit our UUFSD RE sign-up page, learn more about the volunteer options and find a convenient date to teach, assist or greet!

Other ways to volunteer include:

• Help with our UUFSD RE online presence/web projects!
• Help with a special event!
• Share your skills with a class, or lead a social action project!
• Join the RE committee! The committee sets the overall goals for the RE program, and works with the Director of Religious Education (DRE) to make them happen.

If you would like to help with the RE program, please contact either our Director of RE, Alison Aguilar Lopez Gutierrez McLeod Crotty.

Religious Education Committee

The RE Committee develops the mission and goals for the RE program, and works with the DRE to make them happen. We generally meet once a month from September through June, with a half-day retreat in late July or early August to plan for the coming year.

Again, if you would like to help with the RE program or find out more about the committee, please contact either our Director of RE, Alison Aguilar Lopez Gutierrez McLeod Crotty.
