“Make A Joyful Noise”. Our Concert will be all about the joy of song! We will be featuring our own Marylou Gibson in a comedy song, SING!, from “The Chorus Line” and a duet, “How Can I Keep from Singing?” with her daughter, Grace Paxton. Tenor, Rick Hernandez, will be joining the choir in singing songs from the Rennaisance, “Jubilate Deo” by Orlando di Lasso, “Fa Una Canzona” by Orazio Vechhi, Handel’s “Sing For Joy!” as well as more contemporary songs by John Rutter, Frank Ticheli and Joseph Martin. The Youth choir will sing “Sing, Sing A Song” from Sesame Streeet, complete with scat singing! This concert is guaranteed to put a smile of joy on your face at least a few times. Please join us!

Mar 11: Youth Choir Rehearsals Begin Again
Youth Choir will begin on Sunday, March 11th and continue through May 20th (Music Sunday) from 11:30-12:00 noon in YRUU Room. All Youth ages 5-13 are welcome. We will sing on April 8, Easter/Flower Ceremony Sunday, April 22, Earth Day and May 20th, Music Sunday.

Nov 6: Youth Choir Debuts!

40 Voices 12 Days 5 Concerts
In the Autumn issue of the Unitarian Universalist Partners Church Council (UUPCC) magazine is an article by Ruth Gibson about the Unitarian Universalist Association’s 2011 Festival Choir Tour (see pages 12 AND 13). This stirring article with images describes how 40 members of various choirs in the US toured UU’s in eastern Europe to conduct 5 concerts in 12 days. Hence, the title. Youth Choir to Begin at UUFSD!
All youth from 1st though 12th grades are invited to join the UUFSD Youth choir. It will begin on Sunday, October 16th at 11:30-12:10. This first session will rehearse for 8-9 weeks and sing at several Sunday Services including Nov. 6th, Dec, 4th, 11th and perhaps Christmas Eve Service. Everyone who wants to sing is invited!

Sep 11: Interfaith Memorial & Concert
The UUFSD Choir was one of five choirs to perform at the San Diego Interfaith 9/11 Memorial and Concert held at Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park this afternoon. Their performance of “We Will Be a Shelter for Each Other”, directed by Gianna Drogheo and accompanied by Lynne Talley on the piano and Tina Rickard on the flute, was inspirational.
Over 500 people attended the memorial. In addition to the UUFSD Choir, the East County Mormon Choir, the Poway Interfaith Team, the Sikh Foundation of San Diego, Shri Mandhir Temple Choir, and the San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir performed.
Prayers for peace were presented by children of the Baha’i, Buddhist, Muslim, Catholic, Pagan, Hindu, Sikh, Unitarian Universalist, Church of Latter Day Saints, Jewish, and Protestant religions. Lauren Mercier, a YRUU member of our Fellowship, represented the Cluster of Unitarian Universalist Fellowships and Churches in San Diego County.
